Habit : Shrubs with jointed stem, Succulent, leafless, spiny, flat, obovate, glaucous-green. Flowers : Yellow or pale-pink, at length red or reddish-purple, axillary, solitary on free margins of joints. Fruits : Ripe berries fleshy, edible. Flowering and Fruiting Time : December - May Significance : Frequently raised as a hedge along cultivated fields, in scrub forests as an escape. It is used traditionally in different disease conditions like abscesses & wounds, burning sensation in the stomach, diabetes, diphtheria, asthma and anemia.
