Habit : A small tree. Leaves : Opposite, broadly ovate, acuminate, rough above with stiff hairs from bulbous bases, hairy beneath, entire, petiolate. Inflorescence : Axillary and in short terminal cymes. Flowers : White, fragrant in the evening. Calyx hairy outside. Corolla tube orange coloured, lobes white. Fruit : Capsule up to 18 mm long and broad, compressed, obcordate. Flowering and Fruiting Time : August onwards. Significance : It is commonly cultivated in the garden for its Fragrant flowers. The leaves are used in fevers and rheumatism. The leaves have been proved effective in malaria. The dry leaves are used as fine sand-paper.
