Habit : A large, deciduous shrub. Leaves : Ovate, thin, cordate, acute, serrate, often lobed, stipules small. Flowers : Monoecious. Male flowers in short spikes, sepals 4, stamens 4, rudimentary ovary present. Female flowers sepals 4, becoming fleshy and enlarged in fruits, ovary 1-celled, ovule one, stigma bifid. Fruit : Sorosis small, oblong, red, formed of fleshy calyces. Flowering and Fruiting Time : February-March Significance : Cultivated mainly for its edible fruits.
