Habit : A small evergreen tree with drooping branches. Stem : Aerial, erect, cylindrical, branched, solid, bark grey-brown, smooth at first, becoming fissured. Leaves : Bipinnate only in seedlings, leaf-blades wanting in adult leaves, only flattened winged petioles present (Phyllodes), which are coriaceous, obliquely elliptic, pointed at both ends, nerves parallel, slightly curved or sickle-shaped. Inflorescence : Flowers in dense rigid spikes. Flowers : Yellow, fragrant, complete, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite. Calyx campanulate. Corolla yellow, tubular, insignificant. Androecium consists of many stamens, exerted. Fruits : Lomentum, pods much twisted with wavy margin, at first green, becoming intricately coiled and almost woody when ripe, pods split open on the tree. Seeds : Black, Shining. Flowering and Fruiting time : March to December but more in September to October. Significance : Cultivated in gardens or planted on road sides.
